As one who chose homeschooling rather than other routes of education for a gifted child, I am pleased to recommend Treasured and Teachable as an honest portrayal of the homeschooling life. Those who are considering homeschooling for any reason will benefit immensely from reading this book. I wish it had been available when I made the difficult decision to homeschool.
The author’s family resolved to do what they felt would be the best option for their unique concerns about their children. The book not only encourages those with special needs children, but it also encourages any parents who feel their once happy children have lost their love of learning.
The author makes it clear that homeschooling must fit with the family’s requirements, and therefore it is not right for everyone. The book places no burden of judgment on those who do not choose to homeschool.
The costs of homeschooling, both financial and emotional, are many. The author deals with the good, the bad, and the routine. She gives ample suggestions of how to make it affordable from a financial standpoint. She also discusses the value of support groups, homeschool co-ops, and community resources.
This is The Book to read for anyone interested in how a successful homeschool program works. Grandparents, educators, and anyone with concerns about the socialization of homeschooled children will resolve any misconceptions by reading this book.
Inside the pages you will find a treasure of valuable websites and resource listings. This insider information can save the reader time and money by finding out what really works without so much trial and error.
The photos and quotes at the beginning of each short chapter are an encouragement in themselves. This alone makes the book a good resource for homeschooling moms who need a lift when they at times feel burdened.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review from the author. I have given my honest opinion in this review and was under no obligation to do otherwise. I have since bought a second copy of the book because it is one worth sharing.
